Welcome to Sports Nutrition Plus
Sports Nutrition Plus helps athletes and the people around them understand the factors influencing preparation and performance and build practical systems around the realities of sport. Through five Academy pathways and three specialist pathways, SNP connects sports science, education and applied performance support so relevant information can become greater understanding, practical routines and systems that can be reviewed and adapted as the athlete, environment and sporting demands change.
SNP is an independent, sports science-led, education-focused and evidence-informed performance consultancy.
Over 25 Years of Applied Experience – SNP Has Evolved
Sports Nutrition Plus was founded in 2000 by Christopher Hall. More than 25 years of work across sports nutrition, exercise physiology, applied sports science, athlete development, teaching and education has progressively shaped what SNP has become today. That experience has crossed very different environments — from developing young athletes and educating parents and coaches to teams, academies, advanced performance and endurance sport. The circumstances may differ, but one lesson has remained consistent: technically appropriate information is only one part of effective performance support.
Athletes and the people around them still need to understand what matters. Appropriate support and resources need to be available. Responsibilities need to be understood, and practical routines often need to work around changing schedules, environments and sporting demands. Those experiences moved SNP beyond being understood simply as a sports-nutrition service and toward the connected SNP Performance Ecosystem it provides today.
SNP – A More Connected Approach to Performance
Athlete performance is rarely shaped by training alone. Preparation, nutrition, hydration, recovery, education, communication and the wider environment can all influence whether useful performance-support behaviors remain practical as training, competition and everyday circumstances change. Those areas may also involve different people and systems. A coach may direct training, another practitioner may provide specialist guidance, while parents, teachers, teammates or organizational staff influence what is available around the athlete. Each contribution can be valuable but the challenge appears when parts are not sufficiently connected.
An athlete may understand what would normally support preparation but still arrive at training without what they need. A recovery routine may work well at home but become difficult during travel. Appropriate professional guidance may exist while the practical environment makes it difficult to apply. SNP begins with the athlete or client — not with a product, score or predetermined service route. The aim is to understand what is happening, recognize what matters and help relevant information and support become practical within the environment where performance actually takes place.
Who SNP Supports
The SNP Performance Ecosystem is designed for athletes and the people and environments that influence their development and performance. That can include adult athletes, parents and legal guardians, coaches, teams, schools, clubs, academies, sporting organizations and relevant performance-support professionals.
Different people will arrive with different questions. A young athlete may depend heavily on the adults around them, a committed adult may be managing serious sport alongside everyday responsibilities, while another athlete may be facing prolonged endurance demands or an increasingly complex performance environment. There is therefore no single athlete profile and no universal route through SNP. The useful starting point is the pathway that best reflects the athlete, sporting demands, environment or support need being considered now.
The Four Connected SNP Principles
The SNP Performance Ecosystem is built around four connected principles. Their meaning remains stable across SNP, while the way they are applied changes according to the athlete, sporting demands and environment.
- ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT – keeps the athlete and the capability being developed central. Development may include practical skills, understanding, routines and greater capability to manage appropriate responsibilities as the athlete gains experience and sporting demands change.
- ATHLETE SUPPORT – considers what needs to exist around the athlete for relevant behaviors and systems to work. That may include people, communication, resources, facilities, practical access and clearly understood responsibilities within the environment.
- ATHLETE EDUCATION – considers what the athlete and the people around them need to understand and learn. Information becomes more useful when people understand why something matters, how it relates to their role and how it may be applied appropriately in practice.
- ATHLETE PROGRESSION – recognizes that athletes, environments and sporting demands change over time. Appropriate support therefore needs to be reviewed, refined and adapted rather than assumed to remain appropriate simply because it worked before.
The four principles work together – they are not products, services, departments or successive stages, and each SNP pathway brings them to life differently.
From Information to Implementation
Access to relevant information matters, but knowing what may help does not automatically make an appropriate behavior or system practical. SNP uses From Information to Implementation to describe the wider challenge of connecting relevant sports-science knowledge with the circumstances in which athletes and the people around them actually have to use it.
Understanding – Preparation – Access – Communication – Responsibility – Feedback – Adaption
These influences are connected rather than always sequential. Sometimes something new needs to be developed. Sometimes a practical barrier needs to be addressed. Sometimes an existing routine is already working and should simply be protected. The aim is not unnecessary complexity – it is to help relevant knowledge become understandable and practical enough to use, repeat, review and adapt.
A Food-First Approach Where Nutrition Is Involved
Sports nutrition remains a core part of SNP’s professional expertise, while sitting within the wider performance and education framework. Where nutrition is involved, SNP takes a food-first approach. If a food-based approach is proving difficult, the first question is why and whether barriers around preparation, access, timing, availability, tolerance or other practical circumstances can be addressed. Where possible, real food remains the preferred foundation where it can appropriately meet the athlete’s needs.
SNP does not sell supplements or directly endorse any specific brands. Instead, we provide the evidence-based guidance, knowledge, and research you need to make informed choices. Sports foods and supplements can play a legitimate role in your strategy—but only when clearly justified by scientific evidence, your specific sporting demands, or practical factors like time, convenience, and portability. Food first does not mean food only – it means understanding why something is needed before adding it.
The SNP Performance Ecosystem – Eight Pathways for Unique Athletes
SNP provides five Academy Pathways and three Specialist Pathways. They share the same wider philosophy, but each exists because athletes and performance environments do not all face the same challenges. The pathways are not levels within a hierarchy. The aim is to help people recognize which environment or need most closely reflects what they are considering.
- YOUTH ACADEMY – Young athletes are still growing and developing while training and competition demands may already be increasing. The Youth Academy helps the adults around athletes aged 14–17 build age-appropriate foundations and practical support that can develop with the athlete over time.
- AMATEUR ACADEMY – Committed adult athletes often balance serious training with work, family, study, travel and changing routines. The Amateur Academy helps athletes build practical systems around those realities so preparation, nutrition, hydration and recovery have a better opportunity to remain consistent.
- ENDURANCE ACADEMY – As training and competition extend in duration, fueling, hydration, gastrointestinal tolerance, recovery, environmental conditions and logistics can become increasingly important. The Endurance Academy helps athletes prepare for those demands in ways that can be practiced and used when endurance begins to test the plan.
- PRO ACADEMY – Advanced performance environments can bring greater demands, more information and increasingly complex support around the athlete. The PRO Academy helps athletes develop greater understanding, integrate relevant elements more effectively and become more empowered within the environment supporting their performance.
- TEAM ACADEMY – Athletes within the same team can require different support at different times. The Team Academy helps organizations understand those requirements more clearly and connect individualized athlete support with stronger communication, shared standards and practical coordination across the wider team environment.
- ATHLETE SUPPORT – Athletes may already have useful information, professional input and established routines while something still does not appear to be working as expected. Athlete Support helps consider what is happening in context and connect relevant information with proportionate practical support.
- ATHLETE EDUCATION – Access to performance information does not automatically create understanding. Athlete Education helps athletes and the people around them understand what relevant information means, why it matters and how appropriate learning and practical tools can help it become useful in real environments.
- ATHLETES KITCHEN – Knowing that nutrition matters is only the beginning; that understanding still has to become practical food and drink. Athletes Kitchen helps develop the food capability needed to connect sports-nutrition principles with everyday choices, preparation, cooking and athlete life.
Discover Your Habits and The Academy Journey
Within the Youth, Amateur, Endurance and PRO Academies, SNP provides a suggested internal journey of increasing depth. The journey moves from understanding the Academy into structured reflection, guided application and, where appropriate, broader development.
- EXPLORE – helps people understand the Academy, its relevance and the wider pathway through the webpage, video and Complimentary Guide.
- REFLECT – is supported by the Discover Your Habits – Self-Reflection Tool, providing a structured opportunity to consider current routines, strengths, recurring difficulties and the environment around the athlete.
- APPLY – is supported by the Discover Your Habits – Workshop, using guided education to explore relevant patterns and practical application.
- DEVELOP – provides the relevant Academy 12-Week Program where broader structured development is appropriate.
The journey is suggested rather than compulsory as athletes do not need to complete every stage. Completing the selected pathway does not require progression from one SNP pathway to another, as each pathway has its own route. A Virtual 1:1 Consultation remains an alternative route if unsure where to begin.
Team Academy, Athlete Support, Athlete Education and Athletes Kitchen have their own pathway-specific ways to engage and do not use the Discover Your Habits architecture.
